ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday said that Pakistan has successfully avoided being placed on the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list, despite all conspiracies by India and Israel to influence the decision.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Asif said that a recent meeting of the global money laundering and financing watchdog FATF’s International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) concluded without listing Pakistan, marking what he termed a major victory for the country.
According to the defence minister, China played a pivotal role in advocating for Pakistan during the session, firmly opposing any move to grey list the country. Turkiye also supported China’s stance, while Japan — serving as co-chair of the Asia-Pacific Group — fully backed Pakistan.
After over 4 years, Pakistan removed from FATF’s ‘grey-list’
“Pakistan has met all the requirements set by the FATF, and there is no justification for placing the country on any monitoring list,” Asif stated. He further accused India and Israel of orchestrating efforts to have Pakistan grey listed, which ultimately failed.
Pakistan had previously been on the FATF grey list but was removed in October 2022 after completing a series of action plans to address deficiencies in its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing frameworks.
